THE CABANYAL, MAGICAL AND AUTHENTIC
On the edge of the seafront, the marina, 5 metro stations from the historic center, facing the long beach of Las Arenas, we find the old fishing district of Cabanyal, both magical and authentic.
How can you not fall under the spell of this district with its streets lined with colorful houses, their facades adorned with wrought iron balconies and ceramic tiles with sometimes oriental, sometimes geometric motifs.
DID YOU KNOW ?
At the end of the 18th century, Cabanyal, then an independent municipality bearing the name of Pueblo Nuevo del mar, was populated by fishermen, when a fire ravaged the wooden cabins in which they lived.
It was subsequently that the district was covered with small brick dwellings, where fishermen and their families still live.
Today, it’s nice to stroll through this cocoon steeped in tradition, a true open-air museum. Between the fish markets, the fabrica de hielo, the marina, the 5 kilometers of beach, the typical restaurants, we honestly don’t know where to turn, overwhelmed by so much beauty.
